Christian Crowell

The Crowell Family Story   (Airdrie Echo - detailed story of the Crowell Story click here)

It all began on Jan 19th when Megan felt a lump on their three year old son Christian.  After a visit to the Alberta Children's hospital and numerous tests, it was confirmed that Christian had a cancerous tumour on his abdomen.  Christian was diagnosed with stage three, level three rhabdomyosarcoma cancer, a rare form that makes up only four per cent of children's cancer cases. While the long-term prognosis is a good one, with an over 70 per cent cure rate.

Each and every Tuesday, the Crowell family makes the trek into Calgary for a round of chemotherapy treatment. Every third Tuesday they stay overnight for an intense treatment with three different drugs.  The treatment will last for 43 weeks; and then check-ups every three months for three years, followed by every year until he's 10.

The Crowell family lives in Airdrie, Alberta.  Chris Crowell, father of Christian has taken a leave of absence from his teaching job at A.E. Bowers Elementary School, while Megan mother of Christian works as an athletic therapist. Megan began blogging about the family's ordeal, hoping to help others in their situation.

A cause close to the family's heart is the OneMatch Bone Marrow Registry because the family waited to see if the cancer had spread into Christian's blood or bone marrow. The family is hoping to get 1,000 people to register for the program before June 30, 2011. You can register at onematch.ca and then leave a message on christiansfight.blogspot.com to let them know you registered.

When the staff at Western RV Country heard about the Crowell's challenges, we knew we needed to get involved.  The Crowell's are such a positive family with incrediable challenges.  Family is everything, so we will help the Crowell family by giving ourselves, along with fundraising to help support them through this difficult time.

Now we invite you out and join us on Saturday May 14th for a "Silent auction social fundraiser!"
